St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice - 11
"Before St Elizabeth East
Coast Hospice and their
team supported us, we felt
lost and bewildered."
Ross Dale - Paramedic
St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice
"It's an amazing privilege to help to
improve a person's quality of life and help
them be a part of special family moments,
making memories when these moments
matter most," explained Ross Dale, who
works as a paramedic in our St Elizabeth
East Coast Hospice team.
This role sees Ross provide a reactive
service to patients living with life-limiting
illness, and their families, throughout
the communities of Great Yarmouth
and Waveney, working alongside our
community nursing team.
"I think my role offers assurance to those
under our care that their complex needs
can be managed quickly and effectively
in the community, avoiding hospital
admission so people can be supported in
their homes, and that their care wishes
can be met.
"We are here to help you and your family
during what can be life's most uncertain
times. Please do get in touch to learn more
about St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice and
the services we provide."
David & Sarah's Story
David Adams and his wife, Sarah, were
supported by our team at Beccles Hospital and
his Beccles home.
Following a period of ill health, David was
diagnosed with inoperable bladder and
prostate cancer in November 2020. After
his diagnosis, David underwent a course of
chemotherapy before being referred to our
services in March 2022.
David explained: "I was given a few months
to live and I was in so much pain, but once
we came under the care of the hospice's
things became far easier.
"Their care allowed me to have one last
summer of independence and I was able to
go out in my canoe on the River Waveney as
well as enjoy bike rides. I want to thank all
the staff for what they do."
Sarah said: "Neither of us had previous
experience of what a hospice would be like,
but similar to many people we assumed it was
purely for end of life. However, we have found
it is so much more than this.
"They support both your physical health and
your mental wellbeing and they can make
such a difference to you and your loved one."
