Since 1989, our hospice team has
built a reputation for delivering highlevel
care to patients when support
matters most.
Last year alone, we delivered free care to
over 4,000 patients and their families, living
with progressive or life-limiting conditions
throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth
and Waveney.
These services cost around £12m to
facilitate annually, with 70% of funds being
raised from our very generous community
in a range of ways such as our shops, regular
donations and various fundraising activities.
Put simply, without the local community's
fantastic support, our teams would not be
able to deliver their vital services.
From our inpatient units at the hospice in
Ipswich and Beccles Hospital, through to
our Community Care Units and Community
teams, as well as our therapy teams and
LivingGrief services, we provide a range of
care to support patients and their families
at all points of life's journey.
James Crosthwaite,
a nephew's story
"Uncle Tom was always very
complimentary of the hospice staff and
the care they gave him," explained James
Crosthwaite. Tom Crosthwaite, his
uncle, received support at the hospice
until his death aged 64-years-old, in
March 2023, from heart failure, after
living with an incurable cancer diagnosis
for 18 months.
"He was a keen musician at an early age
and performed regularly, from his teens
right up until the final month of his life.
"Tom first came under the care of St
Elizabeth Hospice over the Christmas
period in 2022, to help with pain
management and to help him feel more
comfortable at home.
"A few months later, he visited the
hospice again for pain management and
it was during this time that he passed
away.
"For a majority of Uncle Tom's
friends and family, this was our first
experience of a hospice, but the warmth,
professionalism and compassion St
Elizabeth Hospice provided, during a
time of huge uncertainty, was greatly
appreciated by us all."
