12 - Volunteering
We are lucky to have over 1,500
volunteers, who every year
collectively donate 392,704 hours of
their time to the hospice.
Annually, this equates to over £5.5m in salary
savings for the hospice.
Put simply, without their generous support,
our teams would not be able to deliver their
vital care to thousands of patients and their
families throughout your local community.
Gray Gardner, aged 15-years-old has
volunteered at the hospice since May 2023.
"Through volunteering at the hospice,
I have supported events such as the
hospice's Suffolk Remembers, and its
flagship fundraiser, Midnight Walk.
"Both were very special to be a part of,
for different reasons, but both gave people
the chance to remember their loved ones,
which was beautiful to see.
"During my time volunteering at St
Elizabeth Hospice, I've learnt that many
people really care so much about the work
of the charity. The hospice's services are so
important because they provide support to
people when they really need it."
Richard Krajewski, has volunteered
in our Moments Coffee Shop at Ipswich
Town Hall, since March 2023.
"Volunteering gives me a sense of pride
knowing I have, in some way, helped an
important local cause in delivering its
vital services to people throughout my
community.
"I usually help with serving food and drink
to customers as well as washing up, but
there is opportunity to learn other roles
such as working on the till when I am ready
to do so. There really is no pressure and the
hospice team are grateful for any amount
of time you are able to give.
"Volunteering is something I would
recommend to anyone and everyone. It
gives you great satisfaction and provides
you with the chance to meet new friends
and learn new skills, while also giving back
to your community."
