Over 1,600 volunteers collectively
donate 443,456 hours of their time
to the hospice every year, saving the
equivalent of £6.2m in paid hours.
Put simply, without their generous
support, our teams would not be able to
deliver vital care to thousands of patients
and their families throughout your local
community.
There are many ways you can volunteer
for the hospice, whether it's in one of our
shops, our Inpatient Unit, Community
Care Unit, or as part of our events team,
to name but a few!
Along with supporting your local hospice,
volunteering is a great way to meet new
friends, build your CV, and enhance your
quality of life and wellbeing - it feels good
to do good.

"In 2013, I came back from India, where I had
been living for five years, and volunteering has
helped me reintegrate into life in the UK.
"Initially, I volunteered at the hospice's
Wickham Market shop, sorting clothes in the
back room. This gave me a foothold in the
community and a real sense of belonging.
"During the pandemic, my partner, Jenny,
received incredible support from the hospice
community team before her death. They
enabled Jenny to stay in the home she loved,
and without them, I don't know how I would
have coped.
"This experience inspired me to volunteer
for the hospice again, this time at their
Framlingham shop, as I was keen to give back
to the charity that helped me so much.
"Now retired, and having gone through my
own bereavement - which the hospice also
helped me with - I understand the wellbeing
benefits of walking and the importance of
community support.
"Volunteering has helped me get out of the
house and stay social during tough times. In
fact, I'll now be helping the hospice bring their
bereavement walking group, Walk On, to the
communities of Great Yarmouth & Waveney
in the coming months."
"Volunteering helps
build my confidence
and develop my
social skills.
