Volunteering 11
Tracey Debnam
Zest retail volunteer
"I volunteer at the Zest shop, which
supports St Elizabeth Hospice's young
adult service.
"Volunteering helps build my confidence
and develop my social skills. It has
given me a sense of purpose and it is
great to know that when I volunteer I
am supporting my local community, by
helping raise money for Zest and St
Elizabeth Hospice.
"The Zest shop is a fun place to
volunteer and I always feel appreciated
for my volunteering help."
Valerie Waterman
St Elizabeth East Coast Hospice
retail volunteer
"I volunteer as a retail assistant at the
hospice's Westwood Avenue shop. I help keep
the shop looking clean and tidy and generally
well-presented for customers to enjoy. As
well as this, I serve customers on the tills and
help with sorting donations, arranging goods
for sale, and pricing items.
"The team is very friendly and we're often
amazed by the donations we receive from the
generous public.
"As a retiree, volunteering provides me with
a sense of purpose and the opportunity to
give back to my local community. I enjoy
being part of a diverse team and I believe
strongly in the need for local hospice care,
and my dream is for everyone in our area to
have easy access to it.
"I am proud to contribute to the hospice
which provides such vital services and really
hope the shop gives awareness to the care
they provide and also generates funds to help
this provision develop and expand."
"As a retiree, volunteering
provides me with a sense
of purpose and the
opportunity to give back
to my local community.
