video consultation support.
David's Story
One person who has benefitted from
LivingGrief is David Leney.
"Before LivingGrief, I felt like life was a
closed book, but the service has shown me
life is full of new possibilities," said David.
"My wife passed away in July 2021, while
under the care of St Elizabeth Hospice.
"The hospice was so good to us and I
am very grateful for their care. After her
death, they gave me information regarding
bereavement support offered and regularly
touched base to see how I was.
"In early 2023, the team invited me to
a LivingGrief group session. During the
session, speakers shared helpful approaches
to coping with loss, and we had the chance
to talk with others going through similar
experiences. It was very beneficial.
"After the group session, the team offered
me one-to-one counselling. I wondered if it
was too late, but they reassured me there's
no set timeline for grief.
"I used to think grief should ease after
18 months, but I now realise that's a false
model. Some things get easier, others don't
- but LivingGrief has taught me how to
manage this.
"I also drew great benefit from their Walk
On bereavement support walking group,
which was very useful. I'm so grateful to the
hospice for all they have done, and for their
ongoing support.
"They've helped me look forward, and I'm
eager to support this amazing charity in any
way I can for years to come."
